Half Life 2 Deathmatch
In our Half-Life 2 review a few weeks ago, one of our few complaints with Valve’s latest FPS was that it didn’t ship with any multiplayer support outside of Counter-Strike: Source. We’ve been enjoying it, to be sure, but what we were really jonesing for was a map or two where we could use the gravity gun and the game’s advanced physics to fling barrels at each other.

The Suffering Ties That Bind
Before beginning this article, we thought it might be an idea to dig out our review of the first Suffering game (not written for this website, by the way, but for a long since dead PS2 magazine you’ll never have heard of). And not just to see if there were good jokes we could reuse, either - we wanted to make sure that we weren’t missing anything, that there wasn’t some new element in The Suffering: Ties That Bind that we’d forgotten wasn’t in the first game.

Red Faction

Red Faction
In Red Faction, Volition attempts to combine the best elements from notable first-person shooters such as Valve’s Half-Life, Rare’s Perfect Dark and GoldenEye 007, and Raven’s Soldier of Fortune into one game. It’s heavy on story, has a wide variety of tasks for you to accomplish, and involves combat that’s visceral and strategic at the same time. Although Red Faction rarely outstrips the games it draws inspiration from, the fact that there are times when it shows them up at all is pretty impressive.

Portal Prelude
Portal: Prelude, as its name states it, is an unofficial prequel to the game Portal. Its story revolves around the pre-GlaDOS epoch, even before she was plugged in. At this time, test subjects were monitored by real Aperture Science employees who’s work was tedious, lengthy and repetitive.
