Set in a fictitious, yet culturally rich feudal Asia, Battle Realms (BR) is a fantasy game about courage, honour and most importantly, strategy.
Created by one of the lead designers of what is perhaps the most lucrative computer game franchise, Command & Conquer, Battle Realms consistently surprised me with fresh ideas, innovative gameplay and, rather surprisingly, a fascinating plot.

You play a Japanese samurai bloke called Kenji, exiled from your homelands after knowledge surfaced that you were actually a practicing Scientologist. Oh, and you were framed for killing your father, the leader of the Serpent Clan as well.
After many years in the wilderness, honing his spirituality playing checkers with wild ninja rabbits, Kenji returns to his homeland and his shattered Serpent clan, assuming the role of leader, he being the rightful heir.
The plot is initially very captivating, but never seems to wane either, complementing the rather lush gameplay remarkably well. While I describe it in rather comical terms above, the plot is both well-paced and quite serious, delving into the highly disciplined way of the ancient East with surprising thoughtfulness.
From the main menu, you can mess about with the options, view the credits (does anyone ever choose this?) or jump right into the thick of it. There is multiplayer, skirmish and campaign, with the latter option allowing access to the sumptuous story-line.
